    Allocated to New England on Feb. 20, 1997.

    "Chiquinho" scored 7 goals with Vitoria during the 1996-97 campaign. The Mozambique international had returned to Vitoria after 2 years at Sporting Lisbon. Chico has scored 57 goals in close to 200 Portuguese First Division matches over 9 seasons. He began his Portuguese career with Os Belenenses in 1987 and scored 28 goals over 5 seasons before moving to Sporting Braga in 1991 where he netted 3. Chico moved to Vitoria (Div II at the time) and helped them gain promotion to the First Division for the `93-94 season. That season turned into his best ever scoring 15 goals in 30 games and caught the eye of Sporting's brass .

    Traded to the Tampa Bay Mutiny on August 13, 1997
