CLERKS VS THE OFFICE

Hicks... pois é, só pra contraruckiar, foi só eu dizer que o Pedro Mexia era o David Brent e o Darcy o Kevin Smith.... mas isto lembra-me... será que Slough tem equipa de bola?



Adenda: parece que sim, que existe o Slough Town FC. Soa-me mal. Slough City também não me soava-me melhor. Ou apenas Slouhg FC. Ou Sloughborouh. I guess I would love to find out that there is a Slough United or Desunited. Se bem que acho que "disunited" é que é a palavra correcta. Esta vocês não sabiam. Se calhar.

Mas o mais interessante que escubri foi mesmo como se pronuncia "Slough". Diz que rima com "cow" (vaca). Pensei que fosse "selougue". OK, tanta desilusão, means that este que foi o momento nuno-markl-da-bola will have to stop now.

Slough Town F.C. is an English football (soccer) club. The club was officially founded in 1890 after the amalgamation of three local clubs, Swifts, Slough Albion and Young Men's Friendly Society, who between them forged a new club, Slough FC. The club is a senior non-League football club representing Slough, England.

Nicknamed "The Rebels", the team are currently playing in the Southern League Division One Midlands.

Slough F.C. was originally formed in 1890 and initially played in the Southern Alliance alongside the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Windsor & Eton before later moving on to the Great Western Suburban League. in 1921 they attempted to join the Isthmian League but lost out to Wycombe Wanderers in the voting. Instead they chose to join the Spartan League.

In 1936 the owners of the club's ground, Dolphin Stadium, sold up to a greyhound racing consortium, who ordered the football club to vacate the stadium three years later. After being forced to groundshare with Maidenhead United for several years, the club agreed to a merge with Slough Centre F.C. to return to a ground in their home town. The new club took the name Slough United F.C.

In the 2007-08 season, Slough's first team included several 'International' players – something which is probably rather rare for the level at which STFC are currently playing. Three players, Jermaine Gumbs, Romell Gumbs and Brian Connor, won their second caps for Anguilla in a World Cup quallifying match against El Salvador in March 2008.

In April 2009, Scottish international Paul Telfer joined the club.

  • Nem por isso. Provavelmente pelas mesmas razões (revistas britfes comrpadas no chinês) eu por exemplo conhecia o Aldershot e a sua singular história de falência ténica nos primórdios da era moderna do futebol-negoice.

    Surpreendi um dos ingleses que costumam ir ver o Lhanence ao saber disso. Era o clube dele.

    1937: The poet John Betjeman wrote his poem Slough as a protest against the new town and 850 factories that had arisen in what had been formerly a rural area, which he considered an onslaught on the rural lifestyle:

    Come, friendly bombs, and fall on Slough
    It isn't fit for humans now
    There isn't grass to graze a cow.
    Swarm over, death!

    However, on the centenary of the poet's birth, the daughter of the poet apologised for the poem. Candida Lycett-Green said her father "regretted having ever written it". During her visit, Ms Lycett-Green presented Mayor of Slough David MacIsaac with a book of her father's poems. In it was written: "We love Slough".[38]

    1979: Slough is mentioned by name in the hit single Eton Rifles by The Jam from the album Setting Sons , in the line "There's a row going on down near Slough"

    1991: Film Buddy's Song with externals filmed mainly on the Britwell Estate and the Farnham Road (A355) released.

    1996: The Tiger Lillies' album The Brothel to the Cemetery includes a track called Slough, probably inspired by Betjeman's poem. The lyrics to the chorus are:
    Drop a bomb on Slough, Drop a bomb on Slough
    Drop a bomb on Slough, Drop a bomb on Slough

    Crossbow House is famous for featuring in the opening sequences and some of the filming for popular BBC comedy "The Office".

    1998: The song "Costa del Slough" by the rock band Marillion posits the town as a post-global warming coastal resort, possibly in a reference to the comedian Spike Milligan having presented Slough on TV as a holiday resort.

    2001, 2002, 2003: The BBC comedy series The Office is set in Slough, reiterating Betjeman's view of the place as a depressing industrial wasteland. In fact the character David Brent comments on Betjeman's poem in the series, and it also appears on the inside sleeve of the video and DVD of Series 1. The US version, set in Scranton, Pennsylvania, has the company's address as being "Slough Avenue" in reference to the original.

    2004: Slough is mentioned on the ABC series Lost in the episode "Homecoming" of Season 1. In a flashback of Charlie's life, a woman he knows says her father is away purchasing a certain paper company in Slough, which is a reference to another TV series, "The Office"

  • Eu era mesmo mais por causa dos jogos de computador de futebois. A historia do Aldershot tambem me lembro bem.
    Dos tempos em que o Fulham e o Hull City andavam pela 3ª, o meu querido Swindon Town andava pela 2ª e lá deu um pézinho na Premiere e na Conference tinhas os Altrincham, Gateshead, Rushden & Diamonds, Hereford e por aí fora... daí o "nerd herd power attack". :P

    Revistas que pudessem falar dessa gente só comprei 2 ou 3 engalesas. Eu era mais de comprar o Onze Mondial franciu, mas isso já bem mais tarde... 3 ou 4 anos mais tarde. LOL

  • Moss, esses comments devem ser do xinês que vei pró pertimnence...

    Eu comprava a Onze antes de tudo, mais tarde a Onze-Mondial, tamem, mas as revistas inglesas arrasavam na altura e ainda hoje arrasam....

    Inda hoje malembro duma das primeiras que compreicom alto poster do Liverpool todo autografado pelos rushs e barnes todos, gold. Ainda devo ter isso.

    E depois aquela fase toda inicial da premiership, com os early years de cantona and all... o young ryan giggs a quem devo ter feito o 1º LL, com o zéredrigues dos santes....

    Mas a equipa cujo nome mais me intrigava era o Wycombe Wanderers... para não falar do factode Oldham e Luton terem relvados sintéticos que parciam carpets....

  • Lembro-me bem desses tempos do Cantona no Leeds. Era idolo cá pelo Monte, tenho um amigo que era louco pelo Leeds e detestava o Man Utd. Quando o frances se mudou para lá ia-lhe caindo o mundo. LOL

    Desses tempos nada bate o Vinnie Jones (inspiração principal para "Pitons na Boca"). Só mais tarde veio o patasso voador do Cantona na plateia. :)


    Epa, não tinha ideia que o simbalo do Scunthorpe fosse isso.

    Encontrei esta camisa que supostamente é de 92 a 94 com simbolo diferente, não sei até que ponto usaram o simbalo que se vê ali ou não.

    Assim de repente alembrei-me de outros miticos, tipo o Cheltenham, Peterboro, Dagenham, Walsall, Plymouth Argyle.. hehehe

  • Pois,esse é o simbolo mai entigue, tá na wiki... não sei até quando usaram,mas tenho ideia decomprar uma shoot e ficar meio parvo porque é que os gajos tinham lá um poster do scum torpe que era praí das 3ªs e pensar queas revistas portugas nunca metiam posters do farense, quanto mais do lhanence...

    E não tenho ideia do embulema já ser esse....

    E também nem tenho ideia do QPR sersintético... é que nem vou googlar... luton e oldham ERAM, DE CERTEZA, I BET MY LIFE ON IT

  • loftus road (qpr) nunca foi sintético. kenilworth road (luton) era mas o do oldham n me lembro. alíás, só me lembro do gunnar halle fazer 2 jogos em 48 horas devido ao 2º jogo ser uma final da fa cup. prometo que sabia o nome dos estádios e não precisei de wikiconsultar nada.

    milwall - leeds utd deve ser bom joguinho para se ir ver de armadura vestida q:)

    mais equipas do baú? doncaster rovers, hartleepol, torquay united, exeter city, brentford, grimsby town, darlington e o meu gillingham.

    e por último, este sim! um post à desunited, já tava farto de ver LLs.

    Ground sharing
    Loftus Road was home to Wasps R.F.C. (now called London Wasps) from 1996/97 to 2001/02, having moved from their home in Sudbury, near Wembley in Middlesex. It was part of a 7 year ground share deal, by Chris Wright who had just bought Wasps as rugby union became professional. Wasps agreed to move out, to Wycombe Wanderers' Adams Park ground, at the end of the 2001-02 season to allow Fulham F.C. to rent for 2 seasons between 2002 and 2004, while their ground, Craven Cottage, was redeveloped. The success of Wasps at their new ground meant they didn't move back after Fulham left.
